2006 breeding results for L. P. pyromelana:

For natural history and great captive info for pyros, check out www.pyromelana.com

2006 was, well a bad year really. I had 68 total eggs laid from my female breeders. Out of those, only 27 were good... I know, bummer. Out of those 27 I had 21 hatch for '06. On a bright side, I did get babies out of my F-1 Gardner Canyon pair (Ric Blair line) and a couple were outstanding, but all were males. I also had good results with a Chris Baubel pair, they were 5th generation animals directly from Chris, I had 6 eggs of which 4 hatched, and they were awesome. One was a neat looking aberrant animal (see pic in the "normal" pyro gallery). For morphs, not much really. I did have a clutch of 5 eggs from a Sentz line hypo x het-hypo Sentz and I ended up with 1.2 hypos and 0.2 hets... so I wont complain there. This was the first year since '03 that I did not pop any "Applegate phase" animals out. Had a bunch of females drop bad eggs that could of hatched some really neat and rare morphs. Terry Dunham and I have some animals here on breeder loan, which we were really excited about, as we have a good sized group of hypoerythristic, het-hypoE and poss. het-hypoE pyros that most were proven breeders. Bad eggs from all of it...bummer, especially since we are the only ones with animals of breeder size to produce this genotype. We have big hopes for the '07 season, as all known pyro morphs should be produced (BHB hypo-pales and regular type hypos, albinos het-hypo and hypo het-albinos, possibly even hybinos, Sentz hypos, Applegate phase, hypoerythristics). Also, we have a trio of 100% double het for hypoE and Applegate phase. These were from a breeding of the hypoE male and an Applegate female by Terry Dunham in '04. All three are in prime health and big, should be breeding next year. This will be the most anticipated clutch for '07 (we will be selling the normal "wild type" babies from this pair, which will be possible het for hypoE and Applegate phase, no Applegate possible het-hypoE or hypoE possible het-Applegate will be sold, e-mail to get on a waiting list if interested). As for locality pyros, the Gardner canyons (Santa Rita Mountains) should give a good clutch again, as the female is huge. Hopefully some neat "low band count" generic-non locale animals too, from Randy Wright's line. A few other things as well. Check the "available page" for '06 babies.

Don't forget to check out the Pyro Gallery for photographs of all my Pyros...
